The Dance of our thoughts

In the stillness that is reserved for the middle of the night
Sleep eludes us,
The brain begins an inthralling dance.
It’s rhythm drawing us in.

The mind races,
Ideas,
Fleeting images of random thoughts.
An imaginary jigsaw puzzle,
Without picture reference,
Methodically we attempt to piece together a picture
Making sense from nonsense

Frustration,
Anger
Desperation
They all make an appearance,
Jumping from one to the other,
Never settling

Mental exhaustion
Stifled screams demanding to be heard,
Madness

Set the thoughts and expectations free
Their.grip no longer holds us captive
Blissful serenity
The peace of feeling nothing
The mind releases, its grip
As sleep envelopes us.
